Gobble, Trot, and Roll: Tackling Your Thanksgiving Turkey Trot with BOB Gear

A group of adults and children standing together and smiling, wearing athletic gear and race bibs.

Thanksgiving isn’t just about the turkey; it’s also about tradition. For many families, that means lacing up their sneakers, bundling up the kids, and hitting the pavement for a local Turkey Trot. Whether you’re walking, jogging, or chasing a personal best, your BOB Gear® jogging stroller makes it easy to bring your littles along for the fun.

The Joy of a Family Trot

There’s something special about seeing families and runners of all ages join together for a Thanksgiving morning race. Parents pushing little turkeys harnessed up and bundled in blankets, cheering crowds, and that post-race pie waiting at the finish line all make for a festive and joyous atmosphere.

With BOB Gear’s adventure-ready strollers, your kiddos don’t have to sit this one out. The all-terrain wheels, mountain bike-style suspension, and smooth maneuverability all help provide a comfortable ride for your child while you keep the pace.

Pre-Race Stroller Checklist

Before you head to the starting line, take a few minutes to make sure your stroller is race ready.

  • Tire Pressure: Ensure that the air-filled tires are inflated to the recommended psi for a smooth, safe ride. (See instructions in user guide. For BOB Gear strollers, tires should be inflated to 30 psi).

  • Brakes: Test both the parking brake and hand brake (if equipped) before the race starts.

  • Front Wheel: Confirm that the front wheel is locked into jog mode. This helps you maintain control as you move at a faster pace.

  • Wrist Strap: Always attach the stroller’s wrist strap before jogging to stay securely connected while on the move.

  • Seat Position: Keep the stroller seat fully upright while jogging to maintain stability.

  • Harness: Make sure the 5-point harness is snug and secure to help keep your child safe throughout the race.

  • Storage: Pack essentials like snacks, water, wipes, and maybe a post-race treat in your cargo basket.

  • Weather Gear: Bring a blanket or weather shield if it’s chilly. Your co-pilot deserves comfort, too!

Costume Fun — Safety First

Turkey Trots are all about spirit, so have fun with matching family outfits or stroller decorations — but skip anything that could snag the wheels or obstruct your child’s view. And remember: costumes are optional, but proper harness use is not. Buckle up before you roll out!

Post-Race Gratitude

At the finish line, take a minute to celebrate the miles you conquered together. Your morning may have started with a run, but the real win is sharing the moment with laughter, fresh air, and memories you’ll be thankful for all year long.
